MENCAWAR European project: Mediterranean Network for Cataloguing and Web Fruition of Ancient Artworks and Inscriptions
MENCAWAR is a two-year project funded by the European Community within the Sixth Framework Programme "Integrating and Strengthening the European Research Area, Specific Measures in Support of International Cooperation". This programme promotes cooperation and technological exchange among European and southern Mediterranean countries (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp6/).
The University of Pisa as coordinator with the technical support of Signum (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa) acts jointly with The British Museum (London), the University of Yarmouk (Jordan) and the University of Saint Joseph (Lebanon).
The aim of Mencawar is to create a common database of South Arabian, Nabataean and Phoenician inscriptions which will be accessible not only to researchers but to anyone interested in the subject. In so doing MENCAWAR hopes to make new methodologies widely available for the study and conservation of ancient artefacts and inscriptions.
